Hormones: It’s no secret that hormones play an important role in regulating our body systems. But did you know they also affect our skin? When hormones fluctuate during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause, it can cause an increase in sebum—the oily substance produced by our skin—which leads to clogged pores and excess oil production. This makes hormone fluctuations one of the primary causes of breakouts for women of all ages!

Dehydrated Skin: It may surprise you to learn that dryness and dehydration can actually contribute to breakouts. When your skin becomes dehydrated, it has trouble retaining moisture and will often overcompensate by producing more sebum than usual. This excess sebum can get trapped inside pores, resulting in clogged pores and acne breakouts. The best way to keep your skin hydrated is by drinking plenty of water and using hydrating skincare products like face mists and serums formulated with hyaluronic acid.

Stress: Stress is one of those unavoidable life factors that can have a major impact on our physical health—including our skin! Studies have shown that stress triggers an increase in cortisol levels which leads to inflammation—one of the main causes behind acne breakouts. Always limit exfoliation sessions two times per week max; any more than this could strip away vital oils from the surface layer of the epidermis leading to dryness and flakiness which could eventually lead to pimples appearing all over the face!
